November Favorites

Happy Wednesday everyone! Winter has started to arrive in Karachi. The air-conditioners and fans are off and there’s a chill in the air. Sharing some of my favorites from this month.

Pineapple Coconut Dessert Fiesta:

I made this on Eid along with 3 other occasions. It’s quick, simple & delicious. A trip to the supermarket and 30 minutes in the kitchen is all it takes.

Tropical Pineapple Coconut Dessert featuring biscuits, coconut cream, caramel sauce & pineapples.

Oreo Vanilla Pudding Dessert:

My favorite salted caramel sauce with vanilla pudding, Oreos & sliced almonds. A guest post that I did in collaboration with Urdumom.

Eating Out or Dining In

Hands down one of my top places to eat out this month. Their new outlet at Dolmen Mall Clifton is spacious, convenient and the service is excellent. Plus that flame grilled chicken is delicious!

The Twix Cheescake from Neco’s

This was bought over by my SIL and even though the husband and I are on a diet, we totally binged on it! Fantastic! Thank you for introducing this to us!

Lunch Boxes

Eating healthy requires taking lunch to work and boy did I hit the jackpot when I went searching for lunchboxes at J.B. Saeed. They have containers for everything whether it be salad, sandwiches or snacks. They even have tiffins! The first I purchased was a thin rectangle lunchbox to keep sandwiches; perfect for fitting inside a laptop bag. The second was a box with 4 compartments inside good for a main, snacks and dessert. No spillage either.

These are available at JB Saeed Home & Hardware (titled The original Home Store) located at 46-C, 7th Lane off Khayaban e Ittehad & Khayaban e Bukhari Commercial Phase 6 Near Bank Al Habib، Karachi. There are two in the same vicinity at Bukhari so make sure you go to the right one.

The lunch boxes are located on the 3rd & 4th floor and they were Rs.1190 for the 4 compartment one and Rs.890 for the sandwich box.

Artificial Flowers from ChenOne

I was looking for artificial flowers for my dining table and the place with the best variety as well as the most helpful customer service was ChenOne. He walked through the store showing me one option after another. Plus they were reasonable compared to other options (Habitt, Zeritta, JB Saeed) – Rs. 1397 for three.

Grocery Purchase

Malee Coconut Milk with Coconut Water

If you are following my instagram updates you already know how much I am a fan of this drink! I absolutely love coconut and this is SO refreshing. Plus it’s healthy too. I got mine from Tee-Emm mart but I have seen the drink at Agha’s & Springs also.

Protein Pack from MeatOne

I found out about this protein pack from Karachi Chefs at Home – a local food group with the best collection of recipes, all from a community of home cooks & chefs. There’s a separate pack for males (~900 grams for Rs. 650) & females (~780 grams for Rs.560) with 12 pieces of meat in total; 3 chicken boneless, 3 chicken mince, 3 beef fillets and 3 chicken fillets. Every portion is individually wrapped in clingfilm. It is pricier compared to the local butcher but I loved the convenience factor, especially for our household of 2. Available at all MeatOne locations or you can order it via home delivery.

Gilmore Girls

I hadn’t seen Gilmore Girls growing up but when I read all the excitement about the revival series on Netflix I knew I had to watch. First season finished and I just started with the second one. So much FUN!

Mangoes & Curry Leaves – Jeffrey Alford and Naomi Duguid

I first heard about Noami Duguid when I read her book Burma: Rivers of Flavor. A great read with  delicious recipes and the interspersed stories made me feel I was there in Burma. So when I found out she had also written a book about the sub-continent I knew I had to get my hands on it! It took a lot of searching but I finally found it. It’s a book I have been poring over all month long. The food; the stories …. This book was written in 2005 which means she was travelling (and loving) our part of the world long before. How amazing is that?

Available on Amazon.
